These are sacred moments -- and they are among God's greatest gifts to parents.

Here are a few guidelines to help you take advantage of those moments, to help you talk to your children and to get them to talk to you.

For starters:

• Never say anything untrue
• Keep things simple
• Don't be afraid to say "I don't know."

Key messages to help your child feel closer to a loving God:

• God helps us to make good choices
        - But I want it now.
• God shows us how to be generous
        - It's mine.
• God always answers our prayers
        - I don't want her to die.
• God tells us there is nothing to fear
        - I get so scared when I hear thunder.
• God always forgives and asks us to do the same
        - I'm going to get even.
• God is always honest with us
        - It wasn't me who took the cookie.
